What We Do
Five focus areas, run by people you can actually find in town.
Each service below has one point of contact at the agency. You don’t need an appointment, a form, or a reference number to start, just come by the office or send a message.
01
Small Business Support
We work with shop owners, spaza operators, and home-based traders on the practical side of running a business: registering with CIPC, basic bookkeeping so you know if you’re actually making a profit, stock and pricing planning ahead of busy seasons, and warm introductions into our micro-loan referral network when you’re ready to grow.
02
Skills & Training
Short, practical courses taught in the hall behind the old post office: digital literacy for job seekers, basic welding and small appliance repair, hospitality service standards for guesthouse and restaurant staff, and early childhood development for home-based creche operators. Courses run in six-week blocks and cost nothing to attend.
03
Infrastructure
We keep a public log of reported faults, broken water lines, pothole clusters, streetlight outages, blocked stormwater drains, and follow up with the responsible department until each one is resolved or explained. For larger repairs, we help source materials and coordinate resident labour days.
04
Tourism & Investment Promotion
Burgersdorp sits on a route past the Stormberg mountains that most travellers currently drive straight through. We’re building the case, and the practical groundwork, for changing that: waymarked hiking routes, a heritage building register for restoration, and a simple pitch pack for investors looking at guesthouses or small retail. Our flagship project is turning the underused JL de Bruin Dam into a regional conference, events, and accommodation centre, leased from the municipality on a long-term basis and expected to create 50–100 permanent jobs once operational.
05
Youth Development
Our youth committees back young residents directly: sponsoring kit and equipment for promising sportspeople, giving young people paid work at agency events, and running the cultural days that bring the town together. Requests come from residents and are taken up by the committee.
