Governance & accountability
Elected by residents. Books open twice a year.
How the agency is governed, where its funding comes from, and how it decides what to work on. If something here is unclear, ask us and we will explain it properly.
How we’re governed
A board elected by residents
Our board is elected at an open annual meeting, not appointed. Anyone who lives or runs a business in Burgersdorp can stand for a seat or vote. Board meetings are open to the public and minutes go up on our noticeboard outside the old post office within a week. The board seats 9–11 members drawn from the diaspora, local professionals, the Coloured/White community, and township representatives, with at least 40% women and historically disadvantaged groups holding 60% or more of seats.
How we’re funded
Grants, small donations, no strings
We’re funded through a mix of provincial development grants, private foundation support, and small local donations. We publish a plain-language financial summary twice a year so anyone can see where the funding went.
How we choose projects
Residents raise it, the board ranks it
Anyone can submit a project idea through this site or in person at our office. The board reviews submissions monthly and ranks them by how many households they affect, cost, and how quickly they can realistically get done.
