Our Youth and Women’s Empowerment Committee hosted BDA Heritage Day 2026 at the Burgersdorp Plantation Park on 24 September, under the theme “Celebrating Our Culture, Heritage & Unity”. The programme ran from gospel and traditional music through Xhosa and Sotho dance, imbongi and poetry, to a traditional food tasting and a lucky draw. Residents of every background came dressed for the day.
Six women were chosen by the crowd in the Best Dressed Women category. The first three received vouchers from XGlam to have a dress of their choice made up from their own material, and the other three were gifted Avroy Shlain Cosmetics. Young people ran the gate, monitoring entry and selling tickets, and were thanked with a token of appreciation. Older residents and our former Mayor joined the gathering, and officials from the Department of Social Development used the platform to speak against gender-based violence.
Xoliswa Malgas, the agency’s Youth and Women Coordinator, described the event as “a first of its kind” for the town. The day was reported by Eagle Eye News on 25 September 2026. This day was organised by our youth committees — see Youth Development. Photographs are in the gallery and short clips are on our videos page.
